Google Wave Logo
Everyday we surf the web to explore new things which are happening on the web and once in a while we do come across things that really make us interested. First it was Microsoft’s Big Bang with “Bing” and now it is Google’s turn to create wave with their new product “Google Wave”.
Google unveiled “Waves” at Google I/O, which is Google’s web developer focused conference. It was presented in front of 4000 strong developer community and the success of the event can be gauged that by the end of the conversation all of them were completely mesmerized and gave it a long and hard applause. All the developers present were provided with the credentials of demo account for which they will be submitting their feedbacks. I wish we could have been there and have a sneak into the live demo! We have already applied to Google for a Developer Preview and hope they will oblige. The product would be officially launched by around the end of this year. Read more…
Introduction
This whole 2.0 thing has been notoriously gaining popularity for the past some time – Web 2.0, Enterprise 2.0, Business 2.0 and now, Intranet 2.0. Many say it has become like a fashion to add 2.0 to anything that’s some what different from its ancestors. But this is not the case. There’s remarkable difference between 1.0 and 2.0 and we have been talking about them. In the same series, this time we will try to figure out the anatomy and structure of Intranet 2.0.
Intranet as you all are aware of is private version of Internet. With the development of Web 2.0, Intranet has also undergone some changes. Let’s just give you a hint what we will be talking about in Intranet 2.0 through the following example.

Serena Software, a vendor of enterprise change management software having employee
strength of 800 Facebookpeople and working from 18 different countries across the world, has replaced its traditional intranet with Facebook as a front end linked to a low-cost content management system behind the firewall. According to the Company President and CEO, Jeremy Burton, the company organizes Facebook Fridays and encourages employees to find fun and personal connections in the work place.

At the recently held Conference in Boston from June 9th to 12th 2008, on Enterprise 2.0 most of the speakers agreed to the view that E2.0, as it is popularly known as, is inevitable. Marketing and software pundits believe that this will be the next big thing that will have a major impact on how the business is run today after Internet infiltrated into the business processes. So this time around we won’t be discussing the regular stuff- Internet and Business- instead we will give you an insight into the somewhat new world of Enterprise 2.0 and how it is getting transformed into a major business phenomenon.
Browser based softwares, SaaS, and Web 2.0 have been making fast advancements in the enterprise arena, however the absence of useful pioneer reports is hampering the development process and preventing many organizations from moving on to this next level. The trends have been really amazing with more and more number of user generated content and communication collaboration mushrooming up via blogs and social media websites. Keeping all the above developments in mind a question that often comes to our mind is can the integration of the three- SaaS, Web 2.0 and business- be more meaningful in the enterprise as well.
What is Enterprise 2.0?
The term Enterprise 2.0 was coined by Andrew McAfee, Associate Professor, Harvard Business School. According to him,”Enterprise 2.0 is the use of emergent social software platforms within companies, or between companies and their partners or customers.” Source: Professor Andrew McAfee’s Blog
Social software enables people to rendezvous, connect or collaborate through computer-mediated communication and to form online communities.
Platforms are digital environments in which contributions and interactions are globally visible and persistent over time.

A very familiar term ‘Viral’ most of us encounter as ‘viral fever’ but not many know this term has a more dominant meaning when used with ‘Marketing’. Its time to take out your head from the sand and identify the very real business opportunities around this Web 2.0 stuff. For many its may just seem another bubble of sorts, but startups like MySpace and Digg are wildly popular and have a few lessons to teach the corporate establishment. Read more…
Immediate results, instant gratification, instant riches. Today thousands of online marketing products promise the same things and try and make money. And every minute, someone out there purchases a new product right before the price goes up. The new product, which inevitably is going to change the way we do Internet marketing. If you don’t purchase instantly you are going to get left in the dust while early adopters make all of the money.
Internet marketing is like a treasure hunt because the treasure may or may not actually be at the end, depending on whether you believe in it all.
The process needs to be revealed. The process needs to be flexible enough for personal modifications. And the process needs to guide a person through to profits.
The Marketing power of Internet sites
With the rise of individual voices and the eroding effectiveness of mass marketing techniques, it’s no wonder that so many marketing and communications disciplines are enamored with cracking the code on influence, specifically influence among people.
For example to market a book, an old-school form of media, we turn to a couple of the newest: video file sharing and online social networking, create a video spot for YouTube and our own Web site on MySpace.com. YouTube and MySpace, gives us an access to 30 million people, so you can well imagine how many potential customers we can line up with Internet. The reason why this technique is translating into sales is that videos are a lot visible to a large number of people.

To many people today Web 2.0 may just seem the latest in the never-ending succession of Internet trend, but just like the Internet I can see Web 2.0 staying for long. It mat be or may not be a bubble of sorts, but after reading on so many social networks and search engines I can say that sites like MySpace and Digg place a perfect lesson to teach corporate establishments.
As per me Web 2.0 is a package of both threats and opportunities, the time to take your head out of the sand is now and realize if we can make use of it or let it fade away.
I would like to discuss Web 2.0 in detail, to start with let me define it for you
What is Web 2.0?
Let’s start by examining what exactly we mean by Web 2.0. In its most basic sense, Web 2.0 refers to any tool or application that’s delivered over the Internet and allows people to interact—by contributing, editing and sharing content. Read more…
Ready or not, Web 2.0, a new generation of web-based services, is changing the way people work and the way records and documents are created, used, and shared. One of the most interesting tools of Web 2.0 are the Mashups.
What are Mashups?
Mashup is web application that combines data from different sources to create one entirely new and innovative service. They are a trademark of the second generation of Web applications informally known as Web 2.0.
This new kind of Web based data integration is soaring all over the Internet these days. The main reason for the popularity of Mashups is the emphasis they lay on interactive user participation and the manner they aggregate the data in. A Mashup website is characterized by the way in which they draw content from outside of its organizational boundaries. Read more…
Just like me, not many of us would have heard of this new video search engine Truveo. AOL/Time Warner has launched a video search engine called Truveo to crack Google for advertising dollars and search dominance. This is one area where I expected Google to pioneer and excel, but they’ve fading under their own weight. Any attempt to search for video at Google will only return results for Google Video and YouTube, not video on the Internet at large. Read more…
